What is the origin of Umm Ali’s recipe?
This recipe was named after the wife of one of the kings of Egypt in the Ayyubid era, who wanted the Egyptian people to have a new dessert as a gift for all the people, so she asked the chefs of the royal palace to invent a recipe that would be easy and loved by everyone, and that it be distributed throughout Egypt.

Now, let’s start preparing the sweetest recipe for the Egyptian Om Ali
INGREDIENTS
- 2 puff pastry dough
- 1 liter milk
- Half cup sugar
- 1 spoon Vanilla
- 1 Roasted nuts to taste / coconut / raisin
- 1 cinnamon pinch
- Half cup cream
- 1 pinch of powdered sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
- Take the puff pastry dough out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature until it becomes easy to spread
- To prepare the puff pastry, put it in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes (or according to the instructions on the box).
- Cut the crunchy puff pastry into small pieces
- Bring a liter of milk and add half a cup of sugar to it
- Add to the milk, sugar and a spoonful of vanilla
- Then add the cream
- Put the milk on the stove and stir the mixture well until it reaches the boiling point
- Add roasted nuts to puff pastry
- Add an appropriate amount of grated coconut
- Add an appropriate amount of your choice of raisins
- Add a small pinch of cinnamon
- Mix all ingredients together
- Add hot milk to the ingredients and leave until all the milk is absorbed
- To make the outer layer, bring a small box of cream and stir well

NOTES
- 1-It is preferable to pierce the puff pastry dough with a fork so that all the layers of the puff pastry are crunchy
- 2-If you are going to prepare a larger quantity of Om Ali, then each liter of milk should have half a cup of sugar (it is not preferable to have too much sugar)
- 3-If the milk used is full fat, you can omit the cream
- 4-The milk should be very hot when you put it on the puff pastry dough so that the dough absorbs the milk completely
- 5-Umm Aly is served hot usually, but if you want to eat it cold, you must leave it until it cools first and then put it in the refrigerator
